The kdrama land is going through a dry spell currently as the kdrama audience around the world is waiting for a good romantic series. Well, you can satisfy you thirst with recently finished Netflix drama see you in my 19th life.
The story goes like this – Ban Ji Eum played by Shin hye Sun remember the memories of all her past lives. Repeating her reincarnation for nearly a thousand years, Ban Ji Eum has been living all her lives diligently. After her previous life is cut short by a tragic accident, she sets out to reconnect with the people of her past life in her 19th the current reincarnation, and decides to find a man named Moon Seo Ha played by Ahn Bo Hyun, whom she met in her 18th life. Meanwhile, Mun Seo-Ha a kid who lost people that he loved, including his first love Yoon Joo-Won. Since then, he has refused to have relationships with other people. His life changes due to the appearance of the strange woman named Ban Ji-Eum.
The 12 episodes of this heart-warming series start with a bang keep the audience hooked with smart witty Ban Ji Eum who holds the wisdom of 18 life’s and handles people at ease. On the other hand, the hero of the series Mun Seo-Ha is a fragile sensitive yet strong man fighting his battle to run his mother’s once flourishing hotel. Both the characters encounters were engaging and heart fluttering but as the story proceed further it takes the audience to feel the vivid colors of relationship with a thrilling element from the past.
The parallel love story is between Yoon Joo won little sister Yoon Cho- Won played by Ha Yoon -Kyung and Mum soe ha secretary Ha Do-Yun played by Ahn Dong Goo. Their relationship pull and push will stress you as an audience. Both the actors will sweep you with their sweet and adorable chemistry. But you will be little disappointed by the end of the series when their character was rushed due to focus on the leads. Ha Yoon -Kyung is adorable and you will fall in love with her sweetness. Ahn Dong Goo is a new guy on the block one to look out for.
But the star of the show were the kids who played Yoon Joo-won, Mun Seo-ha and Ban Ji Eum played by Kim Si-A, Jeong Hyun jun and Park So -yi who laid the foundation for the main actors. They showed more chemistry than the leads and the screen lights up with their presence.
Cha Chung Hwa as Kim Ae Gyeong got a good screen presence in the story and the chemistry between her character and Ban Ji – eum looks fresh. Lee Chae -Min brought the mystery in the story. With his good looks and acting skill, he leaves you impressed.
In the series you will see many guest appearances and they were fun to watch – Lee Bo Young, Lee Hae Young, Chae Jong -Hyeop and many.
The 12 episodic reincarnation romantic drama is well packaged and not dragged series is a decent watch. Apart from the leads other characters of the series were hurriedly defined which weakens the story telling. The leads lack little chemistry between them despite well written characters but individually they justified them and did a good job. The story had the potential to outshine many incarnations past kdrama but it failed to become a masterpiece. But having said that it is a decent one-time watch.
